Google officially revealed a lot of details about the new Android 5.0 operating system

Android 5.0 Lollipop Messaging appGoogle officially revealed a lot of details about the new Android 5.0 operating system on Wednesday but it missed to elaborate on two key features – new messaging app & factory-reset protection (kill switch).
According to a report in Android Police, Google has re-introduced a standalone messaging app in Android 5.0, which was earlier replaced with Hangouts in Android 4.4 (in at least Nexus devices). Not many details are available about the app at this point but it looks your normal SMS/ MMS application with a brand new Material Design user-interface.

In a statement, Google told Android Police that the new messaging app will not be replacing Hangouts and will just complement it.
“Messenger and Hangouts offer users choice, each have their own benefits. Hangouts work great for cross platform (web, iOS, Android) and cross medium communications (video, voice, messaging, SMS). Messenger will be specially designed to be a quick and easy way to send and receive SMS and MMS messages on Android; more to come (Nexus 6 will come with both apps),” Google noted in the statement.
Coming to the Factory Reset Protection, the Android Lollipop will add password protection to the factory reset setting (can be done remotely), thus thwarting the thieves or random people from resetting your phone (which is needed to resell the phone), in turn rendering it unusable. Exact specifics are unclear at this point but it should become clear as Android 5.0 devices hit the market.

Nexus 6 press render, new Android promos leaked online

Google Nexus 6 leaked renderAs we draw closer to the rumoured October 15 launch of the new Nexus smartphone, the first official-looking press render of the phone has appeared online. Shared by now-retired@evleaks, the render reveals a phone, which seems to be an enlarged version of the Moto X (2nd Gen) smartphone but with some subtle design tweaks.
It seems Google and Motorola have decided to ditch the metal frame (present in Moto X (2014)) and use a normal plastic frame in Nexus 6, but we can’t be certain until the official launch. No other new details are available at this point but we already know a lot about the phone like 5.9-inch Quad-HD display, Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, Android L and 13MP rear camera with OIS. The Nexus 6 will also reportedly come with 2MP front shooter and 3200 mAH battery.
In related news, a number of alleged Android promos have been leaked, one of which even shows something like Nexus 6 in use. The promo videos also carry a new slogan for Android – Be together. Not the same, which highlights the diversity and choice present in the Android ecosystem. It is likely that these promos will be officially released after the Android L and new Nexus devices launch.

HTC has just introduced the HTC One M8 Eye in China

HTC has just introduced the HTC One M8 Eye in China, a slightly modified of the flagship smartphone released earlier in the year by the company. The only difference that we could spot between the regular One M8 and the One M8 Eye is that the new version switches from a 4MP “Ultrapixel” camera to a more conventional 13MP primary shooter. The camera on the front remains the same 5 MP camera as on the international HTC One.
The Ultrapixel camera used by the One M8 has been the subject of a lot of criticism, as although the sensor is capable of snapping bright photos in low light conditions, the small resolution of the resulting photos has turned many prospective buyers away from the HTC One M8. We’ve first heard about this version of the One M8 with a 13MP primary camera back in April, and it looks like the leaks were spot on, although it took HTC long enough to bring the One M8 Eye to the market. Although it’s a bit early to say for sure, the One M8 Eye could be a sign that the Taiwanese manufacturer might part from using Ultrapixele cameras on its future flagships.
Aside from the main camera update, the One M8 and the One M8 Eye are the exact same smartphone. This means you get a 5-inch display running a 1080p resolution, a sleek aluminum unibody, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 paired with 2GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of expandable storage space, a non-removable 2600mAh battery, Android 4.4 KitKat, and the latest version of the HTC Sense UI.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the HTC One M8 Eye will be available anytime soon in Western markets. As some of you may know, at yesterday’s “Double Exposure” media event, HTC unveiled the Desire Eye, an Android smartphone which comes with a 13MP front-facing camera. Although some of the earlier rumors claimed that the Taiwanese manufacturer will also unveil the HTC One M8 Eye, the smartphone never made its presence at the event, as the only two devices that HTC unveiled are the Desire Eye and the RE camera. The fact that the company has intentionally left out the One M8 Eye from yesterday’s presentation might be a clear sign that HTC isn’t looking to promote its latest One M8 version outside of the Chinese market.
What do you guys think of the HTC One M8 Eye? Would you trade the 4MP Ultrapixel for a conventional 13MP sensor? Drop us a comment in the section below and share your thoughts!
