How To Save Mobile Data Usage

METHOD 1: Set alerts and limits

If your phone has Android 4.0 or later, go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Data usage/Mobile Data.
While the main option should be under Networks, different phones have it buried in some other menu.
Here you can find a record of how much data you have used for a specific period of time.
If you think some apps are consuming too much data, toggle Data Saver, which saves unwanted data being consumed.
You can also set an alarm as well as a limit when data crosses a certain MB/GB.
You can choose when to start the billing cycle.
Once you cross the limit, you’ll get a warning which will automatically turn off your mobile data.
Make sure you take these warnings seriously or else be ready to pay overage charges.
You can also use data saver for WhatsApp calls.

METHOD 2: Use Wi-Fi

This one’s a no-brainer. Wi-Fi connection provides unlimited data, which allows you to download a few episodes on Netflix in a small amount of time. Nowadays, you can find WiFi connections everywhere – from your house to the office, train stations to supermarkets or even cafés. Wherever you go, make it a habit to check for WiFi connections, which at first may require you to agree to their terms but it’s just a one-time verification. Doing this will save you a whole lot of mobile data. Make sure you use a VPN to safely surf the net when connected to a public Wi-Fi.

METHOD 3: Use Offline Services

If the second option doesn’t work for you, this is another option to consider. Companies are cashing on a huge amount of money, thanks to offline services. With data being left out of the unlimited bandwagon, you should consider subscribing to the premium version of some apps that provide you offline usage. Spotify Premium, Amazon Prime, YouTube Music, Gaana+, Netflix, Hotstar are apt instances which allow you to download content for later viewing or listening. They charge you for a specific period of time, but it will be nothing compared to the extra charges you’d pay if you consume all your data.

Google Maps lets you download maps for a particular region for offline usage, which saves a lot of data and battery, for that matter.

Open Google Maps.
Click on the hamburger icon. It’ll expand into a menu. Tap on Offline maps.
Here you will find a list of maps you’ve already downloaded for offline usage. If not, click on SELECT YOUR OWN MAP.
A map will open with blue squared borders, indicating the area you’ve selected.
Select the area for which you’ve to download an offline map.
Just pinch in and out till you fit the square on your desired area.
Tap on the Download option once you’ve successfully pinpointed your location.

Just keep in mind, offline maps are to save data. Don’t be completely reliant on it.

METHOD 4: Disable Cellular Updates

This method is an extension of saving data but it a cardinal option. Every app that works on an internet connection gives you an option of selecting the default mode of downloading. If you want to save every megabyte, it is imperative to set this option on Use WiFi only. Some instances below:

METHOD 5: Browse Carefully

If you constantly browse on your phone, use the mobile version of the site instead of a desktop version, as the latter consumes double the data. Google Chrome has a built-in data saver, which compresses webpages that saves a tiny amount of your data.

Open Chrome, tap on the hamburger icon, choose Settings and find Data Saver.
Data Saver saved nearly 60MB, which is a huge amount of data if your mobile pack in on the brink of exhaustion.
There’s also a new Lite mode in Chrome.

2019 iPhone 11 and iPhone XR Lineup Passes Through the EEC Database

Eleven unreleased iPhone models have passed through the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) database this week which are likely the 2019 iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max, and the iPhone XR.

Apple and other companies are required to register their new and upcoming devices with the Eurasian database before they can release it to the public in Armenia, Belarus, Russia, and other countries which are a part of Eurasia.

The model numbers of the 11 iPhones that have crossed through the EEC are as follows:

It is important to note that the EEC filing indicates that all the handsets are running iOS 12 and not iOS 13 which Apple will be unveiling at WWDC 2019 early next month. Plus, just because the handsets have passed through the EEC, it does not mean that Apple is preparing to unveil the iPhone 11. Like every year, we should expect Apple to launch its 2019 iPhone lineup in September itself.

The 2019 iPhones will comprise of three models: the 2019 iPhone XR, the iPhone 11, and iPhone 11 Max. Plenty of details about the 2019 iPhones have already leaked. The iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max will feature triple cameras at the rear, improved Face ID hardware and 12MP camera, faster A-series chip, improved OLED displays, and more. The third new camera sensor will be an ultra-wide angle sensor which has become commonplace in flagship smartphones released this year.

The 2019 iPhone XR will feature a dual camera set up at the rear and will be available in a variety of colors just like the existing iPhone XR. The second camera sensor is rumored to be a telephoto one, though my bet is that Apple will introduce an ultra-wide angle shooter on the device. The handset will also continue to feature an LCD display.

Apple will be making the switch to frosted glass panels at the rear on all three iPhone models. The rear glass will also be a single piece that won’t feature a cutout for the camera sensors.
Our Take

While it is likely that Apple has registered the 2019 iPhone lineup with the EEC, one should not read too much into it. The handsets are still months away from their launch. For now, one should look forward to June 3 when Apple holds the opening keynote of WWDC to unveil iOS 13, macOS 10.15, watchOS 6, and more.

It is among the best LCD panels around in a smartphone but pales in comparison to the Fluid AMOLED panel of the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Apart from being massive in size at 6.7-inches, it has better contrast, colors, viewing angles, and contrast ratio which are inherent advantages of OLED panel over LCD. It is also HDR10 compliant which means you can stream content from Netflix and Prime Video with better colors and details

The performance of the A12 Bionic chipset is at least a generation or two ahead of the Snapdragon 855.

This does not mean that the Snapdragon 855 is a weak chipset. It is among the fastest chip available in the Android ecosystem and it can easily run any heavy apps or games you throw at it. The OnePlus 7 Pro is also the first Android smartphone in the market to ship with a speedy UFS 3.0 NAND. The faster NAND will ensure the OnePlus 7 Pro never shows any hints of lag while under heavy load or opening heavy apps and games.
RAM and Storage

OnePlus 7 Pro: Up to 256GB UFS 3.0 Storage, 6/8/12GB RAM

iPhone XR: Up to 128GB storage, 3GB RAM

Another area where the OnePlus 7 Pro just makes more sense over the iPhone XR. The iPhone XR is available in 64GB and 128GB storage variants. It also comes with 3GB RAM. Now compare that to the OnePlus 7 Pro whose base variant comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage — that’s 2x of what the iPhone XR offers. The handset is also available with 256GB storage and up to a massive 12GB RAM.

Camera

OnePlus 7 Pro: 48MP f/1.6 aperture with OIS, 16MP 117-degree ultra-wide angle sensor, 3x 8MP optical zoom

The triple cameras on the OnePlus 7 Pro offer flexibility while the iPhone XR can capture better photos. It also offers 3x optical zoom which the iPhone XR lacks.

The iPhone XR makes up for the lack of its flexibility with a superior 12MP shooter. The difference is especially noticeable in low-light scenarios where photos from the OnePlus 7 Pro have more noise and lack details when compared to the iPhone XR. The iPhone XR can also capture better videos than the OnePlus 7 Pro.

The OnePlus 7 Pro offers in-display fingerprint scanner and face unlock. In comparison, the iPhone XR only offers Face ID. While Face ID is more secure than the in-display fingerprint scanner and face unlock on the OnePlus 7 Pro, it is slower and not as convenient to use.

The iPhone XR has the longest battery life of all the three iPhones launched by Apple in 2018. With a lower resolution LCD display, the iPhone XR offers battery life that it is notably longer than the likes of the iPhone XS and XS Max. The OnePlus 7 Pro with its 4000mAh battery also offers decent battery life but the 90Hz display consumes a lot of battery. There’s an option to run the display at 60Hz mode under which the battery life of the phone sees a notable improvement.

The impressive aspect of the OnePlus 7 Pro is its 30W Wrap Charging. With the bundled 30W charger, the OnePlus 7 Pro can charge from 0-50 percent in just 30 minutes. In comparison, the iPhone XR will take almost an hour to reach the same level. The OnePlus 7 Pro does lack wireless charging but the faster wired charging more than makes up for it.

The iPhone XR can also charge from 0-50% in just 30 minutes but it requires one to buy an 18W USB-C charger and an expensive USB-C to Lightning cable along with it.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is a more flexible handset than the iPhone XR. In some aspects, the OnePlus 7 Pro is better than the iPhone XR but the latter excels in some other key departments. There is already a difference of $80 in the base variants of the OnePlus 7 Pro and iPhone XR. However, the OnePlus 7 Pro offers more value for money since it comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage while the iPhone XR only comes with 64GB storage.

The iPhone XR does offer IP67 certification, Face ID, and a superior primary camera. It is also available on all major networks and retailers in the United States and almost every other market in the world.

When compared to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, the iPhone XR offers more value for money. However, when one looks at the OnePlus 7 Pro, the entire equation changes and the iPhone XR’s value for money ratio just does not look attractive.

Twitter Will Now Let You Add a GIF, Image, or Video to a Retweet

Twitter needs to add features on a semi-regular basis, especially since most users have to rely on the official app for all the features they want. As such, the company has confirmed a new addition: adding an image, GIF, or video to a retweet.

Twitter has officially announced on Monday that the “wait is over” when it comes to retweeting with a GIF as a comment. The social network confirmed that users will be able to add an image, a GIF, or a video to a retweeted tweet or a quoted tweet. The company says the feature is rolling out now for iOS and Android users, as well as the mobile website. The desktop version of Twitter doesn’t have the feature just yet.

Users can tap the “retweet with comment” option and then add the preferred image, GIF, or video as they see fit.
